Shri Mihir S. Lokhandwala was born at Surat- Gujarat on 9th June, 1958. His Father, the Late Mr. Shashikant Lokhandwala who was also employed in LIC as Section Head expired in 1985 when Shri Mihir Lokhandwala was working as a software programmer in a private pharmaceutical company.

Even though Mr.Lokhandwala was born in Surat, his academical journey was undertaken and completed in Mumbai. He graduated with B.COM in the year 1978 & M.COM in the year 1980 from Bombay University. He further passed the Diploma in Financial Management from Jamanalal Bajaj Institute, affiliated to Bombay University. He has also cleared ICWA Group –III.

Mr. Mihir Lokhandwala joined LIC in September 1986 and since then is working at Branch 91C, Santacruz under Mumbai Division-III. He was elected Branch Secretary in the year 1991, then the Division Joint Secretary in the year 1993 & subsequently took the responsibility of the Treasurer. At the Zonal Council held at Nashik in the year 1995, the then Zonal Secretary Shri Suresh Tamhankar & the then Zonal President Shri Jayant Desai selected him as the Resident Secretary of the Zone at age of 37. After 2 years i.e. in 1997 he became the Zonal Secretary of the mighty Western Zone at a very young age. He created history in NFIFWI by getting elected for 10 consecutive terms as Zonal Secretary. During his tenure as a Zonal Secretary he, along with the then Zonal President Shri Nishikant Tharthare initiated a lot of activities in WZ like setting up a new up-to-date Union Office at Vile Parle, Cancer Patients’ Guest House at Parel & Kharghar and publishing of the In-house Magazine “Sangharsh” etc.

After spending 21 consecutive years in the Zonal Federation, Mr. Lokhandwala has been elected unopposed as the President of NFIFWI at the Chennai Federal Council. Incidentally this will also be his last term as he shall be due for retirement in June 2018.
